"Another Great Stay!"
March 4, 2008
Hi to all our friends at FDR. We
have finally settled back in to being in the cold. As always
I have to write to tell you all how great our stay was. The room was
great as always, everything was perfect upon getting to my room. I
want to thank all or yet another great stay. We look forward to our
return in November. We miss you all and are thinking about everyone.

"Relaxing Vacation!"

We had a wonderful relaxing

helpful - we soon saw why so many people return year after year!

"I Haven't Been So Relaxed In
Years!"
February 16, 2008
Our 10 and 12 year old sons were a
little apprehensive about having a vacation nanny and they were
among the older children there. Our nanny kept our room picked up
all the time. Room is really the wrong word - It was more like a
villa. We really chose FDR for the suite. Our reservation for a one
bedroom suite was upgraded to a two bedroom suite with 2 1/2 baths.
Transfers were easy and friendly - excursions were convenient. If
you want white sand beach you have to walk a couple yards but it's
an easy walk through a gate with security and no nudes to walk past
contrary to some of the reviews I have seen. The best part of FDR is
the staff - the lifeguards do double with snorkeling, fishing,
kayaking, sailing lessons, great activities all day, tennis lessons
and more. I took scuba lessons with my sons and had a great dive.
The food was excellent - take advantage of the adult restaurants.
Plenty of places to enjoy the sun throughout the resort - I didn't
meet anyone all week that wasn't happy and most of the guests are
repeats, so that tells you something. "Go to this Resort!!! you'll
love it!!!"
- 12234, Long Island, New York
"Thanks For A Great Time!"
February 7, 2008
I don't normally write to commend service and
hospitality, but in this case it is well deserved. We have recently
returned from our second visit to FDR and we really wish we were
still there. Beyond having perfect Jamaican weather, the resort was
all we could have asked for. Nothing fancy, but great food, great
people and a casual family vacation.
The staff is
the most friendly I have encountered in my various travels and our
Nanny, Terian, was great at interacting with our 7 and 3 year old.
The kids had the best time they can remember and neither wanted to
come home. They both said they wanted to live at FDR. What more
can you ask for?
My husband is thrilled with the diving available and
saw a once in a lifetime pod of dolphins on one of his 4 dives for
the week.
The food also
seems to have improved from last year. The Jamaican food, both the
restaurant and the buffet, and the beach buffet were the best. Even
with the power walks, aquacise and tennis, I still managed to put on
a few unwanted pounds!
We can hardly
wait to come back next year. Keep up the great work.

"Once Again, We Had A Wonderful
Time!"
January 26, 2008
Once again, we had a
wonderful time. The real "heart" of this Resort is the staff.
We really look forward to seeing the same faces every year. The
staff goes out of their way to make sure the guests are fully taken
care of. They make a real effort to learn my children's names, which
make them feel comfortable and welcome, which is greatly
appreciated.

"Best Family Resort Ever!"
January 20, 2008
This is the ideal place
for a family with kids vacation, but I did meet a few people from
Chicago without kids who were enjoying themselves and I met a lot of
families
who had been there more than 3 times, one couple told me it was
their 7th time back. The tennis lessons were great and I never tried
the glass bottom boat but heard that was great also. I tried to get
a fishing rod and I ended up with a stick with fishing line and a
hook on it but I did go fishing on the beach with it and caught a
few 1/4 inch fishes that I threw back - it was fun regardless. The
bar staff were extremely friendly and they would make any drink you
want. If I wasn't fishing or playing tennis I slept most of the day
with my balcony door open to receive cool sea breeze. At night after
dinner I was usually by the bar hanging with some lovely people I
met.
I have been to better resorts when I was single but the joy that my
wife and son displayed at this place was priceless. I told her we
will try some other place next year and she said she is coming right
back to FDR. After all why fix it if it aint broke, so I guess we
will be one of those family telling people "this is our 7th time
here" and they will look at us like "you haven't tried anywhere
else?"

"The Best Ever!"
July 21, 2007
I don't
know where to begin, It was incredible. I have been there too many
times to count. Every time we go with all 3 kids ranging in ages
from <2 to 14, all kids have an amazing time. We have been going
since 14 yo was 3 mos old. They never cease to amaze me. I find the
food has gotten MUCH better and suits all tastes. I am somewhat of a
foodie and found it to be spectacular. It is small enough to have a
family vacation with your kids but big enough to be romantic for 2!
We travel a lot throughout the Caribbean, when we travel with the
kids this place is for sure number one! I have been to other 'family
resorts', everything pales in comparison.

"I Can't Say Enough About This
Fantastic Resort!"
July 16, 2007
I can't
say enough about this fantastic resort!!! We (my husband and I, our
16 year old son and 12 year old daughter) just returned from the
Franklyn D. Resort. Our visit was from July 7-12th; definitely not
enough time, wish we could've stayed longer!
The food was superb; a large variety and generous quantities. The
staff was the BEST; they are very professional and at the same time
seem to have as good of a time as the guests.
Aqua aerobics in the pool gave me a reason to get up off my very
comfortable poolside lounge chair and work off some of those
calories from the awesome meals! In fact, I've been inspired to keep
at it back here at home.
All in all, I want to thank you all for a really enjoyable vacation!
We miss being there with you and hope to come back for another visit
soon!
- Judy Roland
"Very Helpful Staff!"

We
misplaced our camera and everyone was supportive in trying to find
it. We found it in our kitchenette. We also requested a radio and
the Resident Manager was so helpful. Thanks all.

"Like the Staff!"
July 3, 2007
The
front desk staff on our arrival were very courteous, so my first
impression was good. Our room was nice, lots of space for the five
of us that stayed in a 1 bed rm. 2 adults and 1 child, 1 toddler and
an infant. Our nanny wasn't there to greet was but she located us in
no time.
The food was good lots of variety. The eldest child a 6 year old was
ecstatic, they had all her favourites. I found the other guests a
bit snobby but then we weren't there to meet people. The staff was
really nice the wait staff, the bartenders, the guys at the grill
every singe staff member of this hotel was helpful, courteous,
polite and respectful.
On the Wednesday night they had there beach BBQ buffet with live
entertainment, the kids get to perform that is so cool to see, and
the food was wicked. The shopping trip to Ocho Rios was better than
i expected, they send you with a tour guide who i found hilarious,
and informative. A must do, it is safe and the drive is nice only
25-30mins. Tip the staff if you can if not that's fine too, they
don't ask or expect.

"Thank You!"
May 02, 2007
Dear FDR,
I just want to thank you for the wonderful time we had at your
Resort a few weeks ago. We have stayed at Pebbles before and really
enjoyed ourselves, but now prefer the FDR Resort.
I went
alone as a single parent with 2 kids, a girl age 13 & a boy age 8.
Our nanny " Miss Jessica" (Jessica Reddie) was wonderful and my son
formed a bond with her and my daughter and I also enjoyed her
company. She made our vacation wonderful, she ate dinner with us
each evening and took my son to the disco each night. He really
relaxed and totally fell in love with her. He just sent her a thank
you card and I wanted to share the thanks with you as well for such
a relaxing and family-oriented vacation.
When we come back we will request
to have "Miss Jessica" again and would not consider going anywhere
else in Jamaica.
Thanks again!

"Can't Wait To Go Back"
March 2007: Heffey, Toronto
My
family and stayed at the FDR Resort in March and to say the least I
had a wonderful time.
I am going to start by telling all about what I liked about FDR
Resort and Spa, and then I will be covering some issues mentioned in
previous reviews.
Overview:
•The FDR staff was absolutely great! Some were outstanding, but,
courteous, friendly and attentive would surely describe the
overwhelming majority.
•The food at FDR was excellent. The variety was quite reasonable and
there was no wait, except at the grill during the lunchtime rush.
Over Proof, the Jamaican restaurant was amazing.
•The grounds were very nice and they were well maintained.
•The pool area was very nice with lots of daily activities.
•Waterslide was great.
•Beaches are not good for the adults but they are shallow and
sheltered for the kids. Great beach just 2 minute walk away.
•Kids activities excellent
•Adult activities? There are a lot of activities available both on
site and outside excursions available. I used the Kayak once, took a
couple of tennis lessons and went scuba diving once. I was lazy.
•Guests were great.
You may
be wondering why I added “Guests” in my list. Well, because this is
part of the FDR experience. FDR is the classic case of the whole
being greater than the sum of its parts. Many, if not most of the
guests are repeat customers and the familiarity they share with each
other and the staff has a spillover effect on the overall atmosphere
of FDR. It is almost like an extended family. The friendliness
factor is high at FDR.
Let’s Talk Nannies:
I was very nervous with the concept of some stranger helping to look
after my children at first, but that soon changed. My girls are five
years apart so we got two nannies so that the kids could go to the
activities that they wanted and still be well supervised.
There were some people who didn’t really use their nannies at all
and some, like us, who used them a lot. You decide what feels right
for you.
Our nannies, Coretta and Korona, were the perfect match for our
kids. It was the little things that really set my mind at ease.
Things like checking the lounge chair to see if it was too hot
before my 3 yr old sat down or the continuous slathering of
sunscreen. The nannies supervised but still allowed each child to
experience FDR in their own way.
We also used our nannies after hours to baby sit while we went for a
late dinner. This worked so well that we did this almost every
night.
My girls cried when we had to leave the nannies and FDR. My 3 yr old
at least once a week says she wants to go to Jamaica to see Korita
and go to the beach.
The Rooms: The rooms were adequate with a bit of an island charm
that added to my experience.
Just a word of warning…… This resort is not like a 5 star North
American resort has been just been plopped in Jamaica. If you are
looking to be treated like royalty or if you want the staff to know
their place and not fraternize with the guests then this is not the
place for you. The FDR Resort shows signs or its age but it is
obvious that steps have been and are being taken to spruce the place
up. There were water pressure issues at certain times of the day but
I also heard from management that this is being fixed.
Cats? I read reviews that mentioned cat roaming around the grounds.
This is simple. No cats! Never saw even one.
Scuba
Diving? The dive op at FDR is manned by some very nice people. They
are very busy with “paying,” customers (students ect) so it can be
tight getting out as much as you want. I checked in the first day
and made arrangements for dives for the rest of the week. I probably
could have got out everyday but I called a few dives because of
rough water, hangover and a few dives that were going to be deeper
than I was interested in. By the way, the diving was very nice.
I don’t
know if I can really describe FDR adequately. It is truly the case
of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. It is a
comfortable “Island” resort with adequate amenities, friendly
people, and boutique resort size which combine to create an
atmosphere which is unlike any vacation destination I have ever
experienced.
FDR
Resort is more like a resort that has grown out of Jamaica and has
Island written all over it. Will the staff treat you like royalty?
No, they will treat you like family. And no, I don’t mean ask you to
baby sit and want to borrow money. Never before in my life have I
ever built that level of familiarity with so many people in such a
short time as I did with the staff and guests a the FDR Resort.
My family and I will be making it a regular stop in the future.

"More Than Expected!"
February 13, 2007
Just returned from our trip to FDR, it was more than
we expected!
We loved the old Colonial style suites. Like nothing we've seen so
far. The linen napkins and the table cloths on the tables are a step
above the ordinary. Karaoke night is awesome. We also loved and
enjoy the quiet and quaint atmosphere of the small Resort. The staff
are very friendly, which made it a pleasant an relaxing stay for us.
It would have been nice to have
daily Caribbean Music at the Overproof Bar area throughout the day.
Also to show some NHL Hockey on TV at the Sports Bar, afterall it is
the Winter Season for us tourists.
The Grill Master Chef was very
friendly and a good cook too! We found all the staff to be very
friendly and helpful i.e directions, drinks on the beach, taking
photos, getting extra towels, especially the guys at the boats for
tours. They were willing to take us out for a ride any time when
available.

"Liked it so much, we bought a timeshare there this
trip"
Apr 12, 2006: noahas@gmail.com, Chicago
Traveler rating:
Just returned from our second trip to FDR, the first
was 2 months ago. We liked it so much, we bought a timeshare there
(we initiated the purchase, there was no "hard sell").
In no particular order, here are some thoughts:
We had fantastic nannies again, Hodette Radway & Marie Whilby.
Although I didn't see any people who were disappointed with theirs,
I would definitely recommend asking for these 2, they were very
caring and accommodating with the kids (age 5 & 6 1/2). Invite the
nannies to eat with you, you need to write a note giving them
permission to do that, but they certainly appreciate it, and help
the kids do everything from cut food to take them through the buffet
line. Also, have them stay in the evening, for $4 an hour (paid
directly to them, it gives them a chance to earn a decent living,
and allows you to have some adult time in the evening while the kids
have fun at their events.
Since our trip in January, their was a storm that wrecked the glass
bottom boat, which the debris from then popped the water trampoline.
I assume that both of these will be replaced, and I understood that
glass bottom boat rides were being done in another boat as well.
Also, the Jamaican adults only restaurant has opened, it is small,
but very nice and the food is excellent. In addition, a honeymoon
suite is a new addition there.
Dale, who is one of the people in the kids club is a very talented
artist, he painted everything in the kids club. I asked him to paint
me an oil on canvas beach scene and in an hour, he had a beautiful
picture made up, willing to work for whatever I thought was fair. I
gave him $60 US, although I should have given him more (next time).
Ask Dale to paint something for you, he also does pictures on plates
(he has samples).
As for the negative things that people bring up in these reviews. I
truly believe that if your expectations are set properly, you will
have nothing but a fantastic experience. Regarding the lack of
towels, this seems to have gotten better, plus if you ask the
nannies, they will grab towels so you won't have to worry. Lack of
lounge chairs by the pool? Maybe, but since I would die of boredom
sitting at the pool all day, it wasn't an issue since I never tried
to get one. Wait for food, it wasn't McDonalds where it was there in
60 seconds, but then again, I was on vacation and didn't need to be
someplace in 10 minutes. That being said, a 45 minute wait was a bit
of an exaggeration in a previous review. As far as the condition of
the rooms ... The Ritz, it's not, but it was certainly clean and
comfortable and other than that, we spent 15 minutes after waking
up, and maybe 1 hour before we went to bed in the room, other than
that, we were out enjoying the place. People complaining about the
ride from the airport? Come on, your on vacation, sure the roads are
brutal, but in many places the road is in great condition, and the
rest of the places, what do you care, you aren't driving, sit back,
have a Red Stripe beer and relax on vacation. [Side note: The one
thing that did get me quite mad, and it had nothing to do with the
resort, the bag porters at the airport are ungrateful both on
arrival and departure. I gave a guy $3 for taking my bags 100 feet
and he started giving me a hard time that I should take better care
of him. I saw someone else getting the same treatment. Odd, I
wouldn't get that reaction in Chicago which I believe has a higher
cost of living.]
Take some tennis lessons, Dale (a different Dale than from the kids
club) and usually a guest instructor give great lessons or will play
along with you.
One other thing, if you have never been to FDR and you notice people
in these reviews mentioning people at FDR by name, its because it is
a small cozy place that has a very friendly atmosphere where staff
will meet you once and remember your name the rest of the trip.
Lastly, the most amazing thing one can say about the way people feel
about the resort is that when I was there this time (our second time
in 2006), we met another couple who was there for their 3rd time,
another for the 4th, another for the 7th and another for the 14th!!!
This was out of a total of 70+ rooms. I have never heard of a resort
that demands that kind of repeat visitation, all these people can't
be wrong.
Hope this is helpful to someone despite the lack of cohesion.

"
Almost Perfect!"
Mar 16, 2006: A TripAdvisor Member, Toronto
Traveler rating:
We just returned from FDR Runaway Bay and are
planning to return next year. Here's why:
- they have worked really hard on the food and it shows
- the staff are AMAZING! the nicest staff I've met
- there are always activites going on
- the size & feeling is such a nice change from the big resorts
- we were relaxed and stress-free for the whole week
- only 2 complaints - our shower wasn't great and the beach is only
ok (a good one is right next door)
- BUT we would go back for sure, especially with a group of friends.
It would be perfect. |

What a dream holiday with a nanny!
-The Allan Family- East Renfrewshire, Scotland
I think this resort is exquisite.
We feel pampered. We only wish we had kids in order to truly
experience everything the resort has to offer!
-The Renegs -
Antioch TN
Our grandkids love this place. We
will be back yearly!
-The Pokoyks - Derwood MD
This is a very special, unique
place that we plan to continue visiting until the kids are much
older. Thank you! Nannies Trisha, Evelyn and Marlene were wonderful
to us and to our children. We will have them with us next year as
well.
-The Cardella Family - Niles IL
We really enjoyed the seated and
served meals each day - glad it wasn't always a buffet. The suite
was perfect - spacious and so clean! Food service and bar staff were
so friendly and helpful. Great service.
-The Rogers Family
I enjoyed my vacation even more
because of both management and staff.
- P. Gordon, Denia Beach FL
Lorraine and Keisha were friendly,
efficient and eager to help us and our children in any way. Donovan
provided us with fantastic personal training, runs through the
mountains, water aerobics and an overall friendly attitude. He was
prepared to set up any type of fitness activity to meet our needs.
Mr. Forbes was very supportive of the dietary needs of our family.

Absolutely
the most fun vacation! I came without my family and when I left the
Franklyn D. Resort, I felt like I was leaving my family instead of
going home to them! The service was outstanding. The bartenders,
activity staff, housekeeping, the front desk, the waiters and
waitresses, everyone went out of their way to make me feel special.
I actually got on the bus to go to the airport and I started to cry!
I wish I could go back today! Do yourself a favor and look no
further than the Franklyn D. for a vacation of a lifetime.

The best
vacation we have had!
[Edited for length] If
you are taking a family vacation, this is the best value/time/fun
you can have. If you are not bringing younger kids, it will be just
ok, because you won't get the full benefit that it offers. My friend
and I each brought our respective 4 and 6-7 year olds on the trip.
After just getting back a few days ago, I would agree with virtually
all the observations already mentioned. Based on a review a few
months ago, I requested Tameika & Marie as Nannies. These two
young ladies could not have been better, I am trying to figure how
to bring them back to the states we liked them so much. Please
request one or both of them, they did everything from signing the
kids up for activities they thought they would like to bathing them
to helping get food and cut it up for them. They were nothing short
of amazing. I called the FDR reservation phone number about a 10
days before the trip to request them specifically. The cost to have
an extra nanny is $20 US per day, it is money well spent if you have
anything in excess of 1 child. In addition, as others have
mentioned, the only way these nannies make a living is by working
"after hours". They are supposed to work from 9am - 4:40pm. If they
work into the evening, you pay them directly $4 an hour US. Please
remember throughout your trip, the average wage at this resort is
$70 US a WEEK! Tip people discreetly as they will never ask nor
expect, but are very grateful and will tell you it is not necessary.
We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite. Several reviews have stated that
the rooms were "dated". I can only assume that people who said that
have never been to any older European hotels. The hotel decor would
be more along the line of a bed and breakfast in its quaintness or
the previously mentioned older European hotel, as opposed to the
glass and marble of the Ritz in Montego Bay or a hotel on the strip
in Vegas. That being said, it was neat and clean. I looked at other
suites other than the 2bed for future visits and they were all very
nice and spacious. Again, as per other reviews, other than than
sleeping and changing in to swimsuits, ZERO time was spent in the
room. The kitchen is complete with glasses, plates, and silverware,
and the refrigerator is stocked with pop, milk, beer, juice, etc. as
well as cheese, crackers and cereals (not in the fridge).
As others have said, this is not a huge resort, again with young
kids, it was a perfect size. Without kids, you would probably want
something bigger. We felt very comfortable with our 4 year olds
walking away from the pool or the restaurant to the bathrooms by
themselves.
Everyone there is VERY pleasant and remembers your name after
meeting you once. These people will all remember you, which is why
other reviewers comment that it is like family there.
The kids club is great, they have everything from arts and crafts
for the kids, xbox, nintendo, etc, movie nights, playground indoor
and out. The beach that people complain about ... if you want a long
stretch of beach this doesn't have it. If you want a beach your kids
can be safe on, this is perfect! If a beach exists solely to build
sand castles and be your entry point into the water, its perfect
again. If you want a vacation that you can take your kids and have
both kids and adults love, this is the place. We plan on going back
within 12 months if not 3 or 4 months. We met several other people
there who come back the same time of year each year, and that is
probably the best statement about how much people like it. Hope this
helps. Chicago, IL |

Love
it more each time! We have been going to FDR for Ten Years. We
love it so much each time we go. Our daughter 12 brought her best
friend, and they had such a great time together! We had a nanny,
they are so great, the room is clean and cool everyday, and our
girls (while making other friends.) bonded with the nanny and shared
many laughs with her. The food is mostly good, the cheesecake tasted
like gelatine though. Now for the service. All of the staff is
AMAZING!! They remember us and everytime you walk by you get a
friendly smile. My daughter was Miss Popular with the staff! She had
so many friends there and still e-mails them, especially when the
hurricane hit. she called one of them and made sure they were okay!
We are planning to come back once again for spring break!

1. [Edited for
length] ..email from the Balletto family
Our stay was an eventful
one. We all had a great time. It was far too short and, as in the
past, no one was ready to leave. We always look forward to next year
and making it better than the previous. There were a few changes for
the better from last year. I liked the change in breakfast service.
The new slide at the pool will be great for the kids.
Lennox and entire crew at
the bar were as pleasant as always. Everyone always had a smile and
had your drink ready in no time. Andre at the grill was great. He
knows I love my jerk pork and eat it everyday at lunch. He made sure
I had it. Lisa, Romeo, Adebe and Akila, the entire entertainment
crew were top notch....a great group of people, friendly, always
there for you, and always getting you active in something. The
scheduled activities were fun. The entire Kiddies Centre crew is
great!!! They keep the kids busy and happy. The activities are
interesting and fun. Every year my son has made an improvement in
the amount of activities he participates in. This year, at 5 years
old, he did more than I ever thought he would do. He had a blast.
The food was fabulous. I enjoyed my dinners. The serving staff was
always polite and friendly, greeting you with a smile. Antoinette
always made sure my wine glass was full. The Bodyworks staff was
fabulous. I didn't really think I could relax enough to enjoy my
massage, but I was wrong. That was truly one of the best massages
I'vd had. I totally zoned out and went somewhere for that hour. My
manicure/pedicure later in the week was great. And to end my
vacation, I had what was truly the best experience, The Spa Glow. My
skin is so soft and perfect right now. My oldest son was never seen!
He was always active in something. What's great is I know he's
having fun and can't get into any trouble. It's safe for him to be
out and about and doing his thing. Keno is a great friend to him.
Dale is in a class of his own. He has that special gift of making
every child he is with feel as though they are the only one. My
youngest son loves spending time with him because Dale makes him
feel so special, older and bigger. I believe Dale has helped bring
him out of his shell and into a world of fun, bringing changes to
his personality that enable him to try new things. This year he
participated in the Super Boy Contest and the Crazy DressUp Party.
He also went into the slide contests with Dale's encouragement.
In closing, we had a
fabulous time and look forward to our return next year. Regards to
all our friends.

We were a family
of five displaced from Cancun because of Hurricane Wilma. We had
planned this family vacation because it was our 15 year wedding
anniversary and we wanted our children to go to a kid friendly
resort. We had two days to decide where to go after we heard our
planned hotel was heavily damaged and I came to this website for
help. After much consideration and hours reading reviews, we decided
on FDR Runaway Bay. I booked the trip and then worried about my
decision for a good week. Well.....after spending a week there.....I
must say.....I did not need to worry at all.....we had the best
vacation ever at FDR!
My son 12, daughter 9 and youngest son 4 ½ had the time of their
lives. We were greeted at 5 pm by all the staff including our nanny
Sophia. We got a tour of the place and off we began our vacation!
My kids did the following activities right at the resort: swam at the
pool, used the water slide about a thousand times, fished off the
pier, snorkeled off the pier and the glass bottom boat, played games
in the game room and kiddie room, arts and crafts, made tied died
t-shirts, played games at the pool, ordered drinks at the bar,
ordered food at the grill any time they wanted, kayaked, played
beach volleyball, and much, much more!
As far as the resort goes, what can I say....it is on the small side,
but just the right size for a family with children. They can roam
about safely but yet they have plenty to do. You can keep an eye on
them anywhere they go.
Just remember a few things before you book your trip:
•This resort sits on a cove...not much of a beach (our Cancun hotel
didn’t have a beach either) however you can walk to the [adjoining
beach and swim]. One of the highlights of our vacation was taking
bread and feeding the fish underwater. The fish come right up to you
and eat the bread right out of your hands! We actually used the
snorkel equipment from FDR’s to do this.
•This is not a five star hotel....having said that....we had a two
bedroom-two floor villa like hotel that was very big and very clean.
The first floor was not air-conditioned but there was a nice breeze
that kept this floor cool during our stay. The bedrooms did have A/C
which made it very comfortable to sleep. We truly did not use our
room that much except to sleep and get showered and changed.
The nanny program was wonderful; our nanny was Sophia. My children
really didn’t need one because of their ages and because we (the
parents) did a lot with our children. But there were times that the
9 and 4 year old went with her to do a craft or make a tied-dyed
t-shirt. During those times, my husband and I were able to sit by
the pool and read for an hour or so at a time. There were families
there who really benefited with the nanny program. Their children
were very young and it gave them an extra pair of hands. Some
parents used them at night (the nannies really want the extra money)
so they could eat dinner by themselves which worked out great.
Others (like ourselves) used our nanny as an extra hand. It depends
on your wants or needs.
My husband and I were really surprised that the food was very good. We
were at another resort on our honeymoon in Jamaica and we were not
too thrilled about the food there. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet,
food at the grill and many of our nightly dinners. The service was
excellent. One thing we liked is that the resort sets out a kid
friendly buffet at 5:30 pm for the children. Then at 6:30 the main
dining room opens for the adults (and children can come too.) Many
nights there was a show around 7:30 for the adults that centered on
the children of the resort. The adults can sit and watch their
children in the show while we they ate. We truly enjoyed that.
We left the resort once to go to Dunn’s River Falls. This was a
highlight to our vacation. My children (even my 4 ½ year old son)
climbed the falls with the help of a tour guide. This is something
you must do if you are in Jamaica. The kids are still talking about
how much fun this was. We even have a DVD of my family climbing the
falls.
My husband and I were also able to go horseback riding on the beach.
There was a horse owner over by the Breezes resort who gave private
riding sessions. We had a very nice ride up through the hills and
back down on the beach. The horses even took us in the sea up to our
legs.
Finally, I can’t express enough how special this vacation was thanks
to the incredible staff here at FDR Runaway Bay. They even hosted a
birthday party for my daughter right on the beach. My 12 year old
son adored the teen coordinators: Adebe, Dale and Keno. If you ever
go there, please tell them that Bryan from New Jersey says Hi!
3. We love it here. Our boys were
treated so well. Everyone takes such good care of the children. We
always feel safe, warm and welcomed. Thank you (as always) for a
wonderful vacation! The Russell family - Islip NY

We have always
stayed 4-5 star. That being said, with a family now with 3 kids we
need to alter our thinking!
This was a very hospitable, fun place. My three kids loved it. My
oldest OD'd on virgin daiquiris. We loved the Nanny concept.
We are now booked to go to the FDR Resort over spring break! Hope
for the same from this company.

Letter
to Resident Manager Caroline Richard-Greaves: Hi Caroline; I
just wanted to let you know that I spoke with my clients who have
just returned. Not only did they have a wonderful trip, but they
were given a complimentary room upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite. I
cannot thank you enough. This family was in need of some good news.
Mrs. J told me that when she checked in and was told about the
upgrade, she had to turn away from the front desk because she
started to get teary eyed. They had planned on this being their last
trip to FDR due to personal finances, but have now decided to
return. Mary Lynn Bohannon (Dream Maker Travel, GA) |

My family
and I wanted to thank you for a most wonderful vacation - your
resort is beautiful and has everything anyone could desire, and much
more. The reason I am writing you is that I wanted to complement
your staff. In all my travels I have never met kinder, caring
and devoted group of people. They handle every request no matter how
small and see it through to completion. While staying here, I lost
my watch and thought I would not see it again. But to my surprise a
member of your staff found it and it was happily returned to
me. Your front desk staff is always kind, welcoming and patient as
they handle all of us guests, always with a smile. Our nanny
was wonderful and pleasant every day. Your dining room staff is tops
- feeding all
of us, handling every request, pleasant and smiling. Your activities /
entertainment staff made us feel as though we were old friends -
chatting and making sure that we all had a wonderful time - And we
did!
We wanted
you to know how happy and impressed we are. We are certainly looking
forward to our next visit! Thank you.

And this letter to Frank

Manager and Travelocity/TripAdvisor, from J.D. Caine , Roselle Park

"...I booked an impromptu trip to Jamaica for two friends and
myself because we were in dire need of rest and relaxation. When we
arrived at FDR and learned that it was a family resort, we were
quite apprehensive about staying. As single adults with no children,
we had concerns about the accommodations. You will be happy to know
that we do not regret out decision to stay. Having previously
vacationed in Hawaii, St. Thomas, Bermuda, Bahamas, Mexico and
various 5 star locations throughout the U.S., we found out time in
Jamaica to be the best by far! When we traveled outside of the U.S.
in the past, we have been disappointed to find that the hotels are
'Americanized" and lack the very culture that we travel so far to
see. The Franklyn D. Resort provided us with a true Jamaican
experience! From the beautiful Georgian Mediterranean quarters to
the great food and beautiful Caribbean setting, we learned so much
about your country as we engaged with each person we met. This was
an extraordinary opportunity that we would have never experienced if
we had stayed at The Ritz-Carleton or Half Moon. Most notable is the
quality service provided by your staff." From entertainment to
masseause to server to bar tenders..." the service and personalized
attention that we received at FDR was second to none! We enjoyed
both the on premises facilities (spa, salon, jacuzzi, disco) and
off-premises activities personally arranged by your staff (horseback
riding, Dunn's River Falls, Ocho Rios shopping, tours and nightly
entertainment). Please convey my personal thanks and appreciation to
your staff for making this a memorable vacation. My friends and I
are already planning our next visit!

Antoinette
- Antoinette, our nanny was awesome and had won
our 10 and 12 year old sons over by the time we left. Although we
didn't necessarily need the boys to be watched
all the time it was like having our private concierge. She
kept track of each days activities and helped to guide the boys to the
right things. Once she knew that they liked snorkeling she would make
sure that they were included in snorkeling outings. She kept our room
picked up all the time.

have ever taken - we will be back!

Jewel - The
funniest thing to me was hearing a mother conspiring everyday at the bar
how they could possibly steal the nannies and take them back to America
with them. The nannies are perfect and my son was very resistant to
leaving with a stranger at first but after a hour with "Jewel" he didn't
even want to have lunch with us because he was having so much fun
especially hanging with the other kids. He made a lot of friends and
looked forward to hanging out with them everyday.
